Description

Team Fishel, the Best Choice in Utility Engineering, is hiring Telecom Engineers / Inspectors to support QA/QC and Fiber Conduit Audit Projects in Virginia, Texas, Arizona and other areas to be determined for our Professional Services Group (PSG).  This position is based in Richmond, VA and will require travel to assigned project areas.  Previous OSP Engineering experience is required.

You will support the design and engineering process by QA/QC of  drawings for construction of new, removal or rearrangement of existing fiber optic cables and conduits to obtain optimum and economical utilization of communications facilities as well as overall QA/QC for the telecommunications process for both new and existing data center facilities.


You may be required to provide on-site construction inspection to ensure design specifications are met by the construction contractor. Further duties will include but are not limited to: CAD design, bore and trench planning/design, redlines, field notes, conduit proofing, locating, QC prints, manhole/handhole layout and butterfly drawings.


Requirements

  • Engineer must have knowledge of buried cable, underground conduit systems, building entrance design and inside plant design

  • Must be able to read and understand highway/road prints, be able to identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, and select routing required for work projects

  • Confined space experience. Knowledge of equipment used for confined space entry such as air sniffer, ventilation system, generator use, and sump pump

  • Analytical and research skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work with others in a Team environment

  • Thorough knowledge of accepted telecommunication engineering practices

  • Thorough knowledge of conduit and buried cable placement and splicing methods

  • Ability to travel locally and overnight extensively


Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with underground fiber optic systems

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, and other telecommunication software

  • Previous experience with underground utility design and planning

  • BICSI OSP certification
