Description

Team Fishel, the Best Choice in Utility Construction since 1936, is hiring a Safety Coordinator for our San Diego, CA office. The responsibilities of this position include conducting safety training programs as well as updating and maintaining those programs. This position also includes conducting routine safety visits to enforce safety policies including wear of PPE and identifying specific job hazards and precautions at construction job site locations. The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000 a year depending on skills, experience, and qualifications.


Responsibilities:

1. Conducts job site inspections and assists utility construction crews with hazard analysis.

2. Manages the area's driver safety and DOT compliance programs.

3. Maintain the condition and operability of Emergency Response equipment.  

4. Investigates reportable accidents, injuries, and job damages.

5. Coordinate service/inspection of fire extinguishers, breathing apparatus, portable gas detectors, and other applicable fire/safety equipment.

6. Conduct/coordinate classroom and field training meetings as needed.

7. Assist Operations and Maintenance Supervision in the preparation of materials for monthly safety meetings.

8. Serve as a member of Incident Investigation committees on an as-needed basis.


Requirements & Qualifications:

1. 2+ years of experience in the construction industry with a focus on safety.

2. Candidates should be accredited in safety, including OSHA 30-hour and First Aid/CPR. Smith System Trainer certification is a plus

3. Ability to perform audits and document findings of company procedures and practices.

4. Must be an effective communicator with familiarity with computers and MS Office programs.  

5. Occasional travel required to support out-of-town construction projects.
